Curatorial Assistant

POSITION: Full Time

 

Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute is seeking to hire a Curatorial Assistant to work closely with the Curator in supporting all aspects of exhibition development, installation, and maintenance. As a Curatorial Assistant, you will liaise with outside contractors for curatorial projects, conduct curatorial research for exhibitions, update exhibitions and loans databases, handle condition reporting, cataloging, and artwork photography, and assist with public program development, studio visits, residencies, and artist/curator visit coordination.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support to the Curator in exhibition development and implementation.

  • Conduct curatorial research for exhibitions and update exhibitions and loans databases.

  • Liaise with outside contractors for curatorial projects.

  • Assist with exhibition installation and de-installation processes.

  • Handle condition reporting, cataloging, and artwork photography.

  • Manage and maintain an up-to-date filing system for the curatorial department.

  • Assist in public program development and implementation.

  • Assist with managing department budgets alongside Curator and Gallery Manager.

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for studio visits.

  • Assist with the coordination of logistical needs for artist/curator/residency visits.

  • Provide residency reports and updates.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in art history, Fine Arts or a field in social science.

  • Fluency in English and proficiency in Kiswahili.

  • 1-2 years of administrative experience or relevant work experience, 1-2 years of curatorial arts context experience is an added advantage.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Computer proficiency with PC and Mac, and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Proficiency in using Adobe Creative Suite  such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Exhibition development, installation, and maintenance.

  • Research and database management.

  • Public programs and residencies.

  • Artist and curator visit coordination.

  • Maintenance and installation.

  • Budget management.
