About the event
Titled 'Being A Host,' the conversation delves into the origins of this transcontinental exhibition and the significance of artist-run spaces in reshaping cultural narratives across Africa. Together, the artists will reflect on building art institutions in today’s African context, reimagining cultural spaces, and the creative possibilities of cross-border collaboration.
Born in 1984 in Nairobi, Michael Armitage is a renowned painter who lives and works between London and Nairobi. A graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art and the Royal Academy Schools in London, he was elected a Royal Academician in 2022.
Armitage is the founder of the Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute (NCAI), a non-profit platform launched in 2021 to support contemporary art in East Africa through exhibitions, residencies, and educational programs.
His work has been widely exhibited in major institutions across the globe. Recent solo exhibitions include Kunsthaus Bregenz, White Cube London (2022), and the Royal Academy, London (2021).…
