About the event
The Chemichemi za Nairobi: A Sonic Mixtape was a workshop that invited participants to see the city of Nairobi with fresh eyes and explored the intersectional influence of water, music, and movement that has defined 'Enkare Nyrobi' -the place of cool waters- over time. This workshop was part of the public programme for NCAI's ongoing exhibition Notes on Friendship: Breaking Bread and offered participants an opportunity to further engage with the ideas, works, artists and creative practices represented in the show.
This two-part workshop began with a sonic meditation that found expression through a vinyl listening session, and unfurled into the creation of a collective mixtape inspired by participants' experiences moving through and within the city of Nairobi.
Participants joined Wairimũ wa Nduba, one of our exhibiting artists, and a Kenyan cultural worker who primarily works within sonic-visual archives and histories, for an evening sojourn through the soundscapes that have been shaped…
