About the event
The Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute invites you to our first online event of 2023, taking place within the context of our ongoing exhibition Mwili, Akili na Roho: 10 Figurative Painters from East Africa. As we look at the histories of art making in East Africa, it is also important that we consider the work of preserving the legacies of those artists and creators who have come before us.
This conversation will delve into the necessity of archiving and documentation; the work of contextualisation and fostering discourse around the artists’ practices; and strategies for engaging with different markets and publics.Drawing on their experience as curator of the estate of Pacita Abad and strategic advisor of the Turnbull Studio (estates of William Turnbull and Kim Lim) respectively, Pio Abad and Bianca Chu will speak of what it means for them to pursue continued, invigorating engagement with these oeuvres. The conversation will be moderated by Don Handa, curator at Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute.Registration:
