About the event
Ato Malinda will lead the group in discussions, critiques, and performance exercises to reflect on where we are—generationally and socially.
In this first session, readers will discuss the historical importance of Lynette Yiadom-Boakye's works and her reverence for the black subject. In addition, through the words of Bell Hooks, we will relate Yiadom-Boakye’s empowering contributions to the 21st-century narrative on culture that demystifies a universal black experience through the critique of our own [black/African] experiences.
The texts for this first session are excerpts from Salvation: Black People and Love by bell hooks and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye: Under-Song for a Cipher. All the books are available at the NCAI Library, and the selected reading will be available for all participants.
These sessions are free, open to all, and take place in person. Registration is required but spaces are limited.
