About the event

In her talk Dr. Malatjie provided an overview of several significant projects she has developed throughout her career, highlighting the conceptual frameworks that underpinned each exhibition. She highlighted the emerging common threads in her practice over time, particularly her engagement with the work of repair as both metaphor and method, addressing historical erasures and cultural wounds through careful curatorial choices. Notable in her presentation was the discussion on the place of sonic elements in curation, and how they contribute to thinking with and beyond traditional visual exhibition-making. Through specific examples from her portfolio, she illustrated how acoustic dimensions can activate spaces, evoke emotional responses, and provide alternative pathways for audience engagement with complex cultural narratives.
