About the event

The workshop was facilitated by nd00ta and Rosie Olang' Odhiambo.

From the underground pamphlets of Mwakenya, to banned books, smutty poems and bootleg zines, Kenya has a long and powerful legacy of Critical Publishing. Today, as surveillance tightens and digital memory fades, we ask: Where did our radical print culture go, and how can we bring it back?

This workshop invited artists, readers, writers, activists, organizers, and creative enthusiasts to rediscover and reimagine the tools of resistance: pamphlets, letters, zines, and more. We’ll read the words of Micere Mugo, Ama Ata Aidoo, June Jordan, and others who spoke truth to power, and honour the martyrs of the recent protests and victims of the previous electoral clashes by continuing the work of artistic and literary activism.

The key activities were:

- Collective readings

- Letter-writing to the past, present, and future
